The whale drum provides auditory and tactile information at the same time, with a low booming sound and simultaneous vibration when hitting the tongue of the drum. It's great for children who seek more auditory input. The vibration is a nice option for children with hearing impairments as well as children who enjoy the tactile input. Children will be able to use one or two mallets or their hands, allowing crossing at the midline, motor planning opportunities, and proprioceptive input. One to four children can play parallel, jointly or cooperatively. Children can even be included by just sitting or standing beside the drum to feel the vibrations. The whale drum provides a great opportunity for children and adults to sing along with the drumming.
